Maldox Suspension 15ml

The formulation of Maldox relies on a synergistic “double-block” of the parasite’s metabolism. Sulfadoxine inhibits the enzyme dihydropteroate synthase, while Pyrimethamine inhibits dihydrofolate reductase. By blocking these two different steps in the synthesis of folic acid, the medication prevents the parasite from producing the DNA and RNA it needs to survive and multiply. Because it has a very long half-life, it can remain effective in the blood for several weeks after a single dose.

Clinical use of Maldox is strictly for treatment or specific preventive protocols and is not recommended for weekly prophylaxis due to the risk of severe side effects. It is contraindicated in infants under 2 months of age and in individuals with known hypersensitivity to sulfonamides (“sulfa drugs”). Serious, though rare, skin reactions such as Stevens-Johnson Syndrome (SJS) have been reported; the medication must be discontinued at the first sign of a skin rash. It should be used with caution in patients with impaired kidney or liver function or those with a folic acid deficiency.
