Each Nectranox capsule contains itraconazole BP 100 mg, an azole antifungal that stops fungi from growing by interfering with their cell membrane formation. It is used for conditions such as dermatophyte skin infections, pityriasis versicolor, onychomycosis (fungal nail infection), oral or oesophageal candidiasis and certain systemic mycoses, following specialist or physician guidance on dose and duration.

  • Broad‑spectrum antifungal active against many yeasts and moulds when organisms are proven or strongly suspected to be susceptible.

  • Capsules are swallowed whole with food; regimens may be once daily, twice daily or in pulse courses depending on the type of infection.

  • Common side effects include nausea, abdominal pain, diarrhoea or constipation, headache, dizziness, rash, swelling and abnormal liver tests; treatment should be stopped and medical help sought if severe liver symptoms (dark urine, yellow eyes/skin), persistent nausea or allergic reactions occur.

  • Has many important drug interactions (for example with some antihistamines, heart medicines and cholesterol‑lowering drugs), so co‑administration with contraindicated medicines like astemizole, terfenadine or cisapride must be avoided.

Nectranox 100 mg should not be used in patients with known itraconazole hypersensitivity or serious active liver disease unless the potential benefit outweighs the risk, and it requires particular caution in heart failure or pregnancy. Patients should always inform their doctor and pharmacist about all other medicines they are taking, and must not change the dose or stop therapy early without medical advice.
