Flucamed Susp 10mg/ml
Flucamed 10mg/ml is a broad-spectrum triazole antifungal oral suspension. It is primarily used to treat a variety of fungal infections, most notably candidiasis (yeast infections), including oral thrush, esophageal candidiasis, and vaginal yeast infections. It is also used to treat more serious systemic fungal infections and to prevent fungal outbreaks in patients with weakened immune systems.

The active ingredient, Fluconazole, works by inhibiting the fungal enzyme lanosterol 14-alpha-demethylase. This enzyme is essential for the synthesis of ergosterol, a key component of the fungal cell membrane. By disrupting the membrane’s integrity, the medication stops the growth of the fungi and eventually leads to cell death. The suspension form (10mg/ml) is particularly useful for pediatric patients or adults who have difficulty swallowing tablets, as it allows for precise weight-based dosing and easier administration.
Clinical management requires awareness of potential drug interactions, as Fluconazole is a potent inhibitor of certain CYP450 enzymes in the liver, which can increase the levels of other drugs in the blood. Common side effects include nausea, abdominal pain, diarrhea, and headache. Significant clinical warnings include the risk of hepatotoxicity (liver damage) and QT prolongation (heart rhythm issues). It should be used with caution in patients with pre-existing liver or kidney disease. For children, the dose must be strictly calculated based on their body weight and the specific type of infection being treated.
