Advant 8mg xsat
Advant 8mg is an Angiotensin II Receptor Blocker (ARB) used primarily to treat hypertension (high blood pressure) and heart failure. It works by blocking the action of a natural substance that tightens blood vessels, allowing them to relax and widen. This helps lower blood pressure, improves blood flow, and reduces the workload on the heart, thereby preventing strokes and heart attacks.
Advant contains Candesartan Cilexetil, a prodrug that is hydrolyzed to its active form during absorption. By selectively blocking the receptor, it inhibits the vasoconstrictor and aldosterone-secreting effects of Angiotensin II. It is particularly indicated for patients with heart failure and impaired left ventricular systolic function, often used when other medications like ACE inhibitors are not well-tolerated.
Clinical monitoring of blood pressure and kidney function is essential during therapy. Common side effects include dizziness, back pain, and cold-like symptoms. Significant clinical warnings include the risk of hyperkalemia (elevated potassium) and potential kidney impairment. It carries a Boxed Warning for pregnancy; it can cause serious injury or death to a developing fetus and must be discontinued immediately if pregnancy is detected. It is contraindicated in patients with severe liver impairment or those concurrently taking aliskiren-containing medications if they have diabetes
