Danacid Tab

The formulation of Danacid typically contains a balanced combination of Dried Aluminum Hydroxide and Magnesium Trisilicate. These ingredients act as “buffer” antacids; they react chemically with the hydrochloric acid in the stomach to raise the pH level, thereby reducing the acidity of the gastric contents. The inclusion of both aluminum and magnesium is intentional—aluminum-only antacids tend to cause constipation, while magnesium-only versions can have a laxative effect. By combining them, Danacid aims to provide effective acid neutralization with minimal impact on bowel habits.

Clinical management requires proper administration: these are chewable tablets and must be thoroughly chewed before swallowing to ensure a large surface area for the chemical reaction to occur in the stomach. They are best taken between meals and at bedtime. It is strictly contraindicated for patients with severe kidney failure, as the body may be unable to clear the aluminum and magnesium, leading to toxicity. Common side effects are rare but may include mild diarrhea or constipation. Importantly, Danacid can significantly interfere with the absorption of other drugs, including antibiotics (like the Phenoxymethylpenicillin on your list) and heart medications; therefore, it should be taken at least 2 hours apart from other medications.
