Em Vit C Syrup
Em-Vit C is a palatable Vitamin C (Ascorbic Acid) supplement in liquid form, primarily formulated for infants and children. It is used to prevent and treat Vitamin C deficiency (scurvy), support the immune system during infections like the common cold or flu, and aid in the healthy development of gums, teeth, and skin
The active ingredient, Ascorbic Acid, is a potent antioxidant and a vital cofactor in several biological processes. In children, it is essential for the synthesis of collagen, the structural protein that builds connective tissue, bones, and blood vessels. It also significantly enhances the absorption of non-heme iron from plant-based foods, which is crucial for preventing childhood anemia. Em-Vit C is often prescribed during recovery from illness or surgery because of its role in tissue repair and wound healing. Because it is a syrup, it is easily absorbed and typically comes in a fruit-flavored base to improve compliance in young children.
Clinical management of Em-Vit C involves following age-specific dosage guidelines to ensure efficacy without exceeding the upper tolerable limit. While Vitamin C is water-soluble and generally safe, very high doses in children can lead to gastrointestinal issues like diarrhea or stomach cramps. It is strictly contraindicated in individuals with a known allergy to any of the syrup’s components or preservatives. It should be used with caution in children with a history of kidney stones or G6PD deficiency. To preserve its potency, the syrup should be stored in a cool, dark place, as Vitamin C is sensitive to light and heat.
